Modern Christianity is in a sorry state. We have become a generation of Holy Wimps. You must understand that Holy Wimps are the very furthest thing from holy. It’s actually an oxymoron cause if you are truly holy you will not be a wimp but for a lack of a better word combination we’re going with this one. Holy Wimps are just this, "Christians" that are serving themselves. They are “Christians” that are satisfied with the moldy bread the world is giving them. They are the ones who have stripped the Gospel of its power.
You see, we have become so very smart. We have decided that the God of the New Testament is not the God of today. He was only powerful in the first-second century. We have made doubt an acceptable thing in our walk with God. We have discovered that we can live comfortable and wealthy lives and still be Christians. Faith has become non-existent and in turn we have become very weak. We are flabby in every sense of the word. We are the greatest wimps of all time.
The ‘greatest’ people in Christianity have never been wimpy. If we look into lives of Esther, Paul, Jim Elliot, Amy Carmichael, Elizabeth Elliot, Joshua, etc, we find some of the most courageous people that ever lived. They were among the people that turned the world upside down. They had no use for their flesh or the things of the world, they were completely abandoned to and consumed by Christ. Their God was a God of great power. Their God was a God of incredible grace. Because of this God that they served, the lives of many were changed. But don’t be deceived, it cost them something. In fact, it cost them everything. You see no one can be infatuated with self-promotion and enamored by the world and still be a strong and courageous child of God. These “heroes” became nothing to themselves and Christ became everything to them.
Our world is hungry. Starving really. We are offering them the most empty religion. We are offering them a god that is not much different than Allah, or Budah. He has no life changing power. He can do no miracles. He rarely answers prayer. The only thing this ‘god’ requires is that you go to church on Sunday and don’t cheat on your wife, or have sex before you get married. Is it any wonder the world remains horrifically hungry, and unchanged? My friends, something must change, this wimpy Christianity isn’t getting us anywhere. It has no appeal.
The only way we can change the world, offer their hungry souls anything of worth, is if we are radically changed by Christ. The only way we can radically be changed by Christ, is if we give ourselves, body, soul, heart, and mind to Christ. We must beg to decrease so that He may increase. Our lives cannot be our own. We must become servants of the most high God. The thoughts we think must change. The movies we watch and books we read must change. The way that we talk must change. Nothing, absolutely, nothing can remain as it was before. Everything must be radically changed by and through Christ. Trust me, it’s far from boring. It’s the grandest, the greatest, most fulfilling adventure you could ever be on.
The God in the Old and New Testament is still God today. The God of Amy Carmichael, and Jim & Elizabeth Elliot is still God today. He can still display His strength in His people. He will still do miracles. He is still full of life-changing power. He has not changed, our ‘belief’ about Him has changed, and in turn made us holy wimps.
What would happen if we would become nothing and Christ would become everything to us?
What would happen if we would take Christ at His word?
What would happen if we would replace our horrible doubt with faith?
What would happen if we exchanged our status as holy wimps and became courageous warriors?
I dare you to step out of your comfort zone and try it.
I dare you to become a world changer.

i do not know you. but i happened upon your site, and am glad i did... i am a fan of the Ludy's and your post reminded me a lot of what they are writing about. keep it up. we need more set-apart people. people who aren't afraid to live what they believe, to stand up and be courageous. people who step out of their comfort zone, into the realm of the unknown -where Jesus is...
thank you
I know you dislike anonymous commenters, but that sounds like a nice Anonymous. It just goes to show that your area of influence is broader than you thought...
But thank you, Brit, for writing this. I really needed to hear this. You always seem to have the right words. I need to spend more time with you. =-)
Okay, so if "holy wimps" is an oxymoron, then what about "Christians who serve themselves" (as you put it)? A Christian is by definition a "little Christ" and Christ's servant, and it, of course, involves self-denial. So can one serve oneself and deny one's self simultaneously? I think not . . . but I better quit, before I indict myself beyond repair. Ha ha ha. I do agree with your hard-hitting analysis of Christian culture.
